Turkey is home to six official wine routes, each offering unique flavors and opportunities to visit wineries, explore the country’s gastronomy, and even enjoy each region’s more traditional tourism. This month, Fine Turkish Wine explores the Trakya Bağ Rotası.

While Turkey's modern wine industry is relatively young, stretching back to around the 1930s, wine heritage in Turkey stretches back to before recorded time. So, with eight millennia of winemaking under its belt, Turkey redefines what it means to be an old world wine country.

“Turkey may not have as much cachet as Bordeaux, but Anatolia… is in effect the world’s first wine appellation…” Given this level of history, it should come as no surprise that the country is peppered with old vineyards. While on the outside it looks like Fine Turkish Wine recently finished its first year, on the inside the story has been a little different! But, with wines officially available for more than a year now, we reflect on the road so far: on the challenges, what we learned, and the successes we had.
